Cybergraud case: UK court evidence to be produced in Kolkata court
KOLKATA: Statements and audio-visual evidence recorded in an UK court will be produced in Bankshall court as city police press charges in a cyber fraud in which UK residents were duped in the name of Microsoft. Based on a complaint from the IT major, the Kolkata cyber cell busted the two call centres at Park Street and Tiljala and arrested seven persons on October 17.
Murlidhar Sharma, joint CP (crime), said: “We have been receiving help and inputs from the UK police and administration. We hope the evidences recorded there (in the UK), along with statement of victims, will help us bolster the case against the accused. The evidence will be forwarded to the Kolkata court after verification through the legal attache of the British embassy in India as genuine. This can be used by the courts here as legal evidence as per the laws of the land,” said Sharma.
A PTI report from London quoted Commander Karen Baxter of the City of London Police, saying: “These raids and arrests mark the successful culmination of a four-year operation.
