Cyber cops file case for defaming CM

BENGALURU: Acting suo motu, cybercrime police from Whitefield division registered a criminal case against one Eshwar Muniyappa for allegedly posting derogatory comments on X (formerly Twitter) against chief minister Siddaramaiah.

A complaint was filed by Kiran M, a constable working in the social media section in the office of the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Whitefield, after which cybercrime sleuths in the department swung into action.

Recently, the government had directed police to initiate legal action against those posting fake news on social media.

Senior officers in the city have formed special teams to monitor social media and detect fake news, derogatory posts and comments that spread communal hatred.
