Confirmed: You can’t share more than 15-second videos in WhatsApp Status in India

NEW DELHI: Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp is planning to make a change to its ‘Status’ feature specifically for India. WABetaInfo, the website that tracks upcoming changes to WhatsApp, reported that the instant messaging app is reducing the limit of videos that users can share as Status messages to 15 seconds in the country. Times of India Tech-Gadgets Now checked the feature on both Android smartphones as well as iPhones and found that the changes have started rolling out to users.
This means that WhatsApp users will no longer be able to upload a video of more than 15 seconds as Status. “Videos sent to My Status will be trimmed to the first 15 seconds,” says the message on the WhatsApp app for Android. Though no message per se appears on WhatsApp’s iOS app, iPhone users in the country too cannot upload more than 15 seconds video. Note that there may be some users who still are able to send more than 15 second videos as the change is still in rollout phase and may take time to reach all users.
Though there’s no official word on the same, it appears that the company has done this to reduce the traffic on its servers.
