NEW DELHI: The global smartphone shipments declined by 7% in Q2 2021 due to ongoing component shortages and the implementation of extended Covid-19 restrictions across Asia and Europe, according to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service.
Smartphone shipments, however, grew by 19% year-on-year as inoculation rates increased in several major economies preventing the need for strict lockdowns as witnessed in the same quarter a year ago, it said.
Market leader Samsung’s quarterly shipments declined by 24% sequentially reaching 57.9 million units in Q2 2021 due to supply constraints.
