Cloudtail challenges validity of CCI searches on April 28

Ecommerce vendor Cloudtail India has challenged the validity of raids conducted by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) on its premises on April 28.

People with direct knowledge of the matter said Cloudtail was arguing that as on the date of the raids, Amazon did not hold a controlling interest in the vendor and hence it could not be linked to a case which was against ecommerce platforms. However, the CCI is learnt to have been taking a stance that Amazon was a shareholder when the CCI initially ordered a probe in 2020 and hence Cloudtail and Amazon were linked.
