Chennai BSNL telephone exchange fire brought under control

CHENNAI: A fire that broke out at BSNL’s Harbour telephone exchange near Mannadi here in the early hours of Thursday was brought under control after four hours of firefighting.
No causality was reported in the fire that broke out in the five-storey building around 5.15am, according to a statement from BSNL.
However, Korukkupet fire station fire officer Jothivel and fireman Saroj fainted after inhaling noxious gas while trying to extinguish the fire. They were rescued and rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Their condition was stable, police said.
The BSNL statement said the fire broke was suspected to have emanated from the first floor which was under locked condition. The exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. However, the fire might have caused by a leakage in the A/C duct, the statement said.
