Chandigarh: Mayor says telcos laid underground cables without nod

CHANDIGARH: Mayor Rajesh Kumar has written to UT adviser Manoj Parida, alleging that two telecom companies, in connivance with officials, had dug up land in residential and commercial areas of the city and laid underground cables without any permission from the authorities concerned.

The mayor has asked Parida, who is also the chief vigilance officer for UT administration, to order a probe for identifying officers and officials who did not act against the firms, saying the entire episode could reveal corruption in the engineering department of the MC.
