Centre seeks reasons behind WhatsApp outage

New Delhi: The government has written to Meta India asking for the reasons behind the almost two-hour WhatsApp outage on Tuesday, said people with knowledge of the matter. The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) wants to know if the disruption of the instant messaging platform was due to an internal glitch or a cyberattack, they said.

“We have asked WhatsApp for a report on the recent outage,” IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also said on the sidelines of an event in the national capital later on Wednesday, confirming the development.
