CBI takes over probe into Uttar Pradesh-origin complaint of alleged TRP manipulation

Mumbai: After the Mumbai Police, now the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case of alleged tampering and manipulation of television rating points (TRPs).

Based on a request made by the Uttar Pradesh government and subsequent notification by the central government, the CBI on Tuesday took over a case registered by the Hazratganj police station against unknown accused. The complainant, Kamal Sharma, regional director of Golden Rabbit Communications Pvt. Ltd, a Delhi-based ad-agency, in his complaint has alleged that “he has reliable information that certain unknown accused including certain channels and broadcasting companies with the aid and assistance of certain unknown accused have tampered and manipulated TRPs to gain wrongfully.”
