Can I use WhatsApp Payment in India?

WhatsApp Payment is now live in India. It is an in-chat UPI-based payment service that lets WhatsApp users send or receive money. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has given approval to WhatsApp to start its digital payment service in a phased manner.

How does WhatsApp Payment work?
Open the contact’s chat window to whom you want to send the money. Click on the ‘attachment icon’ and further tap on the ‘Payment’ icon. If the contact has WhatsApp Payments set up, a screen will be visible where you can send and request money. Enter the amount that you want to send and add a note if needed. Now, enter your UPI PIN to complete the payment process.

WhatsApp is a free instant messaging app that doesn’t require any fee or subscription. The app uses your phone’s data or Wi-Fi connection instead of your recharge plan’s voice minutes or SMS plan.
