Cable operators deny COAI claim

Kolkata: Amidst the reports of domestic internet glitches in the city, the telecom service providers (TSP) and local cable operators have been engaged in a blame game for network downtime.

The Cellular Operators of India (COAI) has claimed that the residents of Rajarhat, Dum Dum, Eastern Metropolitan Bypass areas and suburbs, including Sonarpur, Barrackpore, Barasat and Uttarpara, have been facing network downtime because of intentional fibre cuts by local cable operators for business interests.

S P Kochhar, DG, COAI, said, “Following complaints of customers, the TSPs are sending technicians for the restoration of connectivity but they are facing hindrance from the local cable operators.” TOI Telecom majors such as Airtel and Jio refused to comment separately.
