ByteDance’s Resso to shut in India on January 31

ByteDance’s music streaming app, Resso, will shut its service in India effective January 31, after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology sought information on the processing of data of Indians, people in the know of the development told ET.

The ministry had sought Resso’s response following allegations of improper use of proprietary algorithms to process the data of Indians emerged.

Resso will be closing as a premium music streaming service in India on January 31, this year and this decision relates to actions taken by the Indian government and is specific to India, a source aware of the developments said.
