BSNL to set up 20,000 4G towers in remote villages: Report

NEW DELHI: State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will set up 20,000 4G mobile towers in the border areas under the Centre’s 4G saturation project, Mint reported citing unnamed officials aware of the matter.

The development coincides with BSNL’s 4G services roll out with the telecom stack from the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT). The telecom PSU has deployed 200 fouth-generation network sites in Punjab under a pilot. A commercial deployment will follow suit this month onwards.

The state-run telco last month placed an advance purchase order (APO) worth over Rs 15,000 crore with the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)-led consortium, whereas ITI Limited has bagged a Rs 3,889 crore APO from BSNL.
