BSNL to manage MTNL’s international calls soon

NEW DELHI: State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to manage international calls for counterpart Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), and a consensus is likely before this year-end, a top official said.
“The two companies (BSNL and MTNL) are in discussions and a decision is likely to be taken within 1-2 months, enabling BSNL to facilitate MTNL’s international calls on its networks,” BSNL chairman Pravin Kumar Purwar told ETTelecom.
There has been no substantive progress in this matter until now, according to Purwar, but he said that the issue would likely to be decided on the mutual consensus between the two state-owned telecom service providers.
However, the matter would not require any prior approval from the Digital Communications Communication (DCC), the top inter-ministerial telecom decision-making body of the government.
