BSNL, MTNL logjam: Parliamentarian seeks funds to buy equipment, hire staff
NEW DELHI: There is a need to allow funds to purchase telecom equipment from multinational vendors, increase tower and fiber footprint, and recruit minimum employees for servicing state-run companies’ subscribers, a Mumbai-based lawmaker said.
In a letter dated June 4, 2021 to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seen by ETTelecom, Shiv Sena Parliamentarian Arvind Sawant sought administrative empowerment and substantial financial support to the two state-owned telcos – Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) – to purchase mobile equipment from global market, and said that there was a necessity to hire required minimum staff for the maintenance of existing and new connections.
