Both citizens and tech companies will be served better with an element of regulation: Ajit Mohan MD, Facebook

NEW DELHI: Facebook and its family of apps are an ally for India in the trajectory of economic growth and social development and both citizens and technology companies in the country will be served better with an element of regulation, said Ajit Mohan VP and managing director for Facebook India in reference to the intermediary guidelines being worked out by the government in his first interview since taking over as the head of the social media giant. Q: From a video streaming platform like Hotstar to Facebook. How has the journey been so far.
A: The big thing that really stands out is the extent to which Facebook’s family of apps (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) are embedded in the fabric of India. What stands out for me is the scale of the opportunity. We really see the Facebook family of apps being an ally for India in its trajectory of economic growth and social development and we look at the country as extraordinarily important for us.
