Bharti Airtel welcomes Jio entry, says will fulfill regulatory obligations

The country’s top telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Thursday “welcomed” the entry of Reliance Jio Infocomm to the sector and said it will fulfil all its regulatory obligations.

The comment came after over two weeks of bitter war of words between the two sides over a consultation paper on the termination charge issued by the telecom regulator as well Jio’s ongoing trial operations.

“We welcome Reliance Jio’s entry to the digital world and wish them the very best,” Airtel said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement added, “We also welcome Jio’s call to leading operators to work together. As a responsible operator we will fulfill all our regulatory obligations as we have always done”.

The statement came after Mukesh Amabni in his speech in the morning had said the the onus was on the incumbent operators not to misuse their powers when it comes to point of interconnect and when it comes to their service and Jio.

While Ambani in the morning said that Jio will fulfill PM Modi’s dream of Digital India, Airtel said that over the last 20 years, Airtel has been contributing towards building a digitally enabled India and remained fully committed to and take leadership in supporting the Government’s Digital India vision.
