BharatNet

The government has in-principle decided to put the BharatNet project under PPP model under which the assets created would be handed over to a private party for its operation & maintenance for 25 years. In this regard, the DoT is preparing a note for the approval of the cabinet in accordance with the May 17, 2019 directions of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The BharatNet project was originally sanctioned in 2011. The union cabinet approved the National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN) project on October 25, 2011 to provide broadband connectivity by laying Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) to all Gram Panchayats in the country.
