BBMP failed to collect Rs 8.4 crore from telecom operators: Audit

BENGALURU: The cash-strapped Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) may be struggling to find funds for several civic infrastructure works across Bengaluru. Yet it has turned a blind eye towards collection of taxes from mobile (telecom) tower operators in various parts of the city.

The civic body’s indifference towards recovering dues from telecom operators has resulted in a loss of Rs 8.4 crore to BBMP, as per findings of the state audit and accounts department.

The department, which submitting its annual audit report of BBMP for the year 2019-20 last week, discovered that the civic body had failed to collect tax dues from some mobile tower-operating telecom companies.
