‘Avoid one size fits all’ approach in deepfake regulation: BSA to Meity
In a letter to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) earlier this week, BSA — the software alliance — has requested avoiding the “one-size-fits-all” approach for the proposed deepfake amendments in Information Technology (IT) Rules.
BSA is a global alliance of software companies, including giants like Adobe, Cisco, Microsoft, IBM, and others. It has a presence in over 30 countries.
The alliance has recommended that the proposed policy amendments in the IT Rules should consider the differences in the role and function of intermediaries when prescribing obligations related to the spread of deepfakes.
