Assam DIG’s phone stolen during stroll

GUWAHATI: Two top cops fell prey to criminals recently. In the first incident, on Sunday, it was DIG (law & order) Vivek Raj Singh who became a victim of mobile phone snatchers during his morning walk, officials said.

The snatchers were on a motorcycle. The crime scene was Mazar Road in Ulubari, a stone’s throw from the Assam Police headquarters. In a separate incident, the residence of Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Kumar Deka in Hengerabari area of the city was broken into, on July 19 by suspected burglars. Security has been beefed up at the residence after the break-in.
