Apple’s spending more than ever to make the iPhone ‘unique’

In the last couple of years, there have been more than a few murmurs of discontent – even from the hardcore fans – that Apple doesn’t do a lot of ‘new’ things with the iPhone. However, it looks like now Apple has ramped up its efforts when it comes to research & development (R&D). According to a CNBC report, the Cupertino-based tech giant spent $4.2 billion on R&D during the third quarter of 2019. This is reportedly the most Apple has ever spent in doing R&D in a single quarter.
The report further goes on to explain that when compared to other tech giants – mainly Google and Microsoft – Apple has spent relatively less on R&D. For instance, during the same quarter Microsoft and Google spent 13.4% and 15.7% of their revenue respectively on R&D. For Apple, this number stood at 7.9%.
