Apple Tax Investigation

Following the principle that all companies, big and small, must pay tax where they make their profits, the European Commission has concluded that Ireland granted undue tax benefits of up to €13 billion to Apple during 2003-14. This is illegal under EU state aid rules, because it allowed Apple to pay substantially less tax than other businesses. Since there are no penalty provisions, the EU will tell Ireland to recover the entire tax benefits with interest from Apple.
