Apple may soon part ways with Samsung, here’s why

Apple plans to make displays in-house for its devices as soon as 2024, reports Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. After ditching Intel in 2020, and with plans to break up with Qualcomm and Broadcom, Apple looks to reduce further reliance on Samsung, LG, and others that supply displays for iPhones, Macs, and more.

Currently, Apple uses displays designed and made by a number of vendors, including Samsung, LG, and BOE, for iPhones, Macs, and other products. Gurman says that Apple will still rely on third-party vendors to manufacture the panels, but they will be using the design and specifications provided by Apple.

Citing people familiar with the development, the report says that Apple plans to put its custom display first in the higher-end Apple Watch models, probably Apple Watch Ultra, as early as next year.
