Apple may not bring it’s own 5G modem for iPhones until this year

NEW DELHI: Until earlier this year there were strong rumours indicating that Apple was working on it’s own 5G modem chips for the 2020 iPhones. That was because Intel, at that time, was speculated to be running behind schedule with the 5G modem plans for iPhone. However, more recently the chipmaker announced its exit from the 5G smartphone market, leaving Apple no choice but to join hands with Qualcomm again for 5G modems. Although the deal is for four years of modem supply by Qualcomm with two additional optional years, Apple seems to continue the work on its own 5G modem.
According to The Information website (via CNET), Apple is working on its own 5G modem chips for future iPhones. But the process may take a lot of time to become a reality. The company is said to bring its own processors by 2025, which co-incidentally is six years from now, same time period after which the Apple-Qualcomm deal is supposed to end.
