Apple may face CCI probe over in-app payment issue

NEW DELHI: There could be regulatory trouble for Apple in India over its dominant position in the apps market, with fair-trade watchdog Competition Commission of India (CCI) looking into a complaint that the company is forcing developers to use its proprietary in-app purchase system.

The complaint with the CCI has been filed by a Rajasthan-based non-profit ‘Together We Fight Society’, which has alleged that the tech giant’s fee of up to 30% hurts competition by raising costs for app developers and customers, while also acting as a barrier to market entry.
