Apple looking for a software workaround to skirt the Apple Watch ban
Apple dropped surprising news yesterday as it revealed it is temporarily halting the sale of Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the US. The company has had a long-standing dispute with medical technology company Masimo over the blood sensor tech used by Apple in its smartwatches. “A Presidential Review Period is in progress regarding an order from the US International Trade Commission on a technical intellectual property dispute pertaining to Apple Watch devices containing the Blood Oxygen feature. While the review period will not end until December 25, Apple is preemptively taking steps to comply should the ruling stand,” said the company in a statement.
Now, a report by Bloomberg reveals that Apple is working on a workaround through a software update. The report mentions that engineers are Apple are working on adjusting how oxygen saturation is determined and further how the data is given to customers.
