Apple acquires self-driving startup Drive.ai
NEW DELHI: It seems that Apple is quite serious about bringing its own autonomous car to the market. The Cupertino-based tech giant has acquired Drive.ai an autonomous driving startup.
According to a report by Axios, Apple has purchased the autonomous driving startup Drive.ai. The report also adds that Apple has hired dozens of Drive.ai engineers and the startup has also ceased all its operations. Drive.ai was founded in 2015 by a group of students of Stanford University. The startup has also launched its self-driving shuttle in some cities in Texas.
However, soon after the launch, the company faced some difficulties and was looking for a buyer. The opportunity was grabbed by Apple and bought the company to boost the development of its self-driving vehicle system. The report does not reveal the purchase price of the deal.
