Appeals against 2G acquittals: HC asks ED, CBI, Raja, others to file written submissions

OVER FIVE years after a special CBI court acquitted former telecom minister A Raja and other accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case, the Delhi High Court on Thursday asked Raja, the CBI, ED and other parties to file their written submissions in appeals challenging the acquittals in the matter.

A single-judge bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma asked the parties to file “brief written submissions”. The CBI counsel expressed urgency in the matter and pressed for early hearing, pursuant to which the court listed the cases for hearing on May 22. He submitted that he would argue on the aspect of granting leave to appeal, which is a formal permission granted to appeal against the decision of a court.
