Anil Agarwal on why Vedanta picked Gujarat over Maharashtra for its chip plant

Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal said a ‘team of professionals’ had chosen Gujarat as the location for the Vedanta-Foxconn combine’s upcoming ₹1.5-lakh crore semiconductor and display fabrication plant, a decision that set off a political storm in Maharashtra, which had also wooed the consortium.

In an interview, Agarwal told Nehal Chaliawala and Satish John that he had “no say” in choosing Gujarat over Maharashtra. He added that the funds for the project would be raised through debt and that the company had no plans as of now to sell equity stake. Edited excerpts.
