Amit Shah-headed GoM discusses VRS scheme for BSNL, MTNL employees

NEW DELHI: The Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by home minister Amit Shah has discussed a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for the staff of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone NigamNSE 2.70 % Ltd (MTNL), besides allocation of 4G airwaves to the two state-run telcos as part of their revival package.

The GoM, which also included telecom, IT and law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, however has not taken a final call, people familiar with the matter said.

They added that the group during the two-hour-long meeting discussed the ways to bring back the two public sector service providers back to health and considered monetisation of lands and building assets to fund VRS to the willing employees.
