Amid fight with offline retailers, Xiaomi says to launch more than 100 retail stores across India

NEW DELHI: Smartphone maker Xiaomi India Wednesday said it has launched more than 100 retail stores across the country to expand its footprint in tier-5 and tier-6 cities that have a population of fewer than 50,000 people.

The announcement comes amid an ongoing fight between Xiaomi and offline retailers who have alleged that the handset maker is favouring online channels and is growing its own offline stores by diverting majority of stocks. Retailers had also claimed that Xiaomi is asking them to charge more for devices compared to devices offered through e-commerce websites.

Xiaomi said it will open 12 new stores in the East, 26 in the Western regions, 29 in the North, and 33 in the South of the country.
