Amazon withdraws 33 products after protest

BENGALURU: Within three days of a petition on Change.org that its products are an insult to Hindu deities, Amazon-.com on Friday withdrew 33 products on its platform. While the online marketplace did not issue a statement, it quietly withdrew kitchen rugs, door mats and toilet covers showing Hindu gods.
Some 1.47 lakh people lodged their protest online on Change.org, and #BoycottAmazon trended with over 33,000 tweets on Twitter.
E-commerce platform Amazon was selling products such as toilet rugs with paintings of Lord Ganesha, commode covers with Lord Shiva and sandals with photos of Mahatma Gandhi on its international site Amazon.com and not on the India site Amazon.in. The sellers of the products were also international.
