Amazon seeks hearing over ‘country of origin’ fine
NEW DELHI: E-commerce major Amazon India has made an appeal to the consumer affairs ministry for a hearing in response to the charges of violating the mandatory provision for mentioning the “country of origin” for products sold on its platform, sources said.
Officials said the company had not paid the fines imposed on it to compound the offence within the given time frame. Subsequently, the e-tailer made the appeal. “This provision is provided in the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodity) Rules. The company would put its case before the authority,” said an official.
