Amazon Alexa saw 67% jump in India interactions in 2020

Bengaluru: Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa saw a 67% jump in user interactions in India last year, as the US-based e-commerce behemoth built a voice ecosystem across the country by embedding it in Amazon’s family of apps and over a hundred third-party devices.

India was the fourth country — after the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany — where Amazon launched the voice assistant in October 2017.

Alexa, which is available on Amazon’s Echo smart speakers, has branched out to enable itself on Amazon’s shopping app, Fire TV, and on laptops, televisions, smartphones, and smart home appliances. When Alexa entered India three years ago, the voice-activated assistant was available on only two third-party devices apart from Amazon’s Echo devices.
