All Google advertisers have to now verify their identities and countries of origin

Advertising is one of Google’s biggest source of revenue on Search. From big to small, a lot of brands advertise on Google and now the tech giant is making it mandatory for advertisers to reveal their identity and country of origin. John Canfield, director of product management, ads integrity, revealed this in an official blog post.
Canfield said that so far this was restricted to political ads only but now the company is extending it to all advertisers. The policy requires all advertisers that want to run election ads on Google’s platforms — Search, YouTube among others — go through a verification program to confirm their identity. “We display that identity in the ad unit so that users can learn more about the election ads they see on Google’s platforms,” said Canfield in the blog post. Since introducing this program, Google has verified political advertisers in 30 countries. “To provide greater transparency and equip users with more information about who is advertising to them, we are extending identity verification to all advertisers on our platforms,” said Canfield.
