Airtel outpaces Jio on user adds for 3rd straight month – Trai data for Oct

New Delhi: Bharti Airtel NSE 1.49 % outpaced rival Reliance Jio in terms of subscriber addition for the third straight month in October, according to data released by the telecom regulatory authority of India (India) on Wednesday.

Airtel added net 3.7 million wireless subscribers growing 1.12% month-on-month as against Jio’s addition of 2.2 million, up 0.55% in October, while Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost 2.7 million, down 0.9% from previous month.

Jio continued to lead with the overall subscriber base of 406.36 million, followed by Airtel’s 330.29 million and Vi’s 292.84 million. But, Jio also had the highest proportion of inactive users at 21.41%, as against Airtel’s 3.26% and Vi’s 11.22%.

The wireless subscriber market share of the top three operators was 35.28% for Jio, 28.68% for Airtel and 28.42% for Vi at the end of October.
