Airtel eyes sub-Ghz spectrum; says plan ready to counter Jio’s subsidised smartphone
NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel said that it will focus on both renewing its spectrum licenses and buying new spectrum for capacity expansion, including sub-GHz airwaves in the March auction.
Gopal Vittal, CEO of Airtel, during the post-earnings call said that the telco has prepared a full plan to deal with its rival’s [ Read Jio] plans to launch subsidised smartphone.
ET previously reported that the Sunil Mittal-led telco was in talks with various Indian handset brands like Lava and Karbonn and contract manufactures to launch smartphones.
