Airtel arm seeks DoT permission to provide in-flight connectivity

KOLKATA: Indo Teleports, a Bharti Airtel arm, has applied to the Department of Telecommunications for a permit to provide inflight connectivity and broadband services on domestic and foreign airlines using satellite systems.

Indo Teleports sets up and operates hubs for TV broadcasters to beam their channels to satellites for transmission. The company, formerly Bharti Teleports, was floated in 2008. Indo Teleports, it is learnt, will be able to offer calling and internet connectivity on ships once DoT issues it the flight and maritime connectivity (FMC) licence, although it is likely to initially focus on airlines.
