Aegis to rebadge 65 Hutch employees in Sri Lanka in BPO deal

BPO company Aegis will rebadge 65 Hutch employees in Sri Lanka as part of a deal to carve-out the telecom provider’s customer management business in the country.

Aegis, owned by the Essar Group, has been working with Hutch Sri Lanka in the field of documentation, automation and digitizing services of its new subscribers. The new contract will serve customers in English, Tamil and Sinhalese.

“This partnership greatly extends our scale, and bolsters our Telecom BPM services portfolio. We also see significant potential to grow our business with Hutch Sri Lanka across new high growth areas such as analytics as well as digital and multi-channel customer engagement,” Sandip Sen, CEO of Aegis, said in a statement.

Aegis already works with companies such as Vodafone in Sri Lanka and is planning to move beyond managing just calls and into higher-value areas such as social media management, a source with knowledge of the matter said.

With this deal, Aegis will have over 400 employees in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Aegis has two centres in Sri Lanka, one of which was launched last year.
