Geopolitical issues constraining handset supply chain; 5G to boost device ecosytem: Experts

NEW DELHI: The ongoing geopolitical issues have constrained the supply chain development and it is among the top reasons for the muted growth of the smartphone industry in the country, while fifth generation (5G) networks can boost multiple device segments, the panelists at the ETTelecom 5G|6G Congress 2024 said.

“There is a geopolitical issue because of which supply chain development has got a bit constrained. That is a challenge before us that we need to sort out. It is also one of the reasons why the market has not grown rapidly because the brand spending has come down substantially. To that extent, we are not in an optimum situation at the moment,” Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) said.
