In relief for Vodafone Idea & Adani, DoT mulls waiving 5G minimum rollout fine

New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is considering waiving off the penalty for not meeting minimum roll out obligations for the 26 GHz (millimeter wave band) 5G spectrum as the ecosystem is yet to be developed, officials aware of the details told ET.

The department has already issued show cause notices to Vodafone Idea and Adani Data Networks for not meeting the minimum requirements of rolling out 5G network in the band. However, after being told by the companies about the lack of ecosystem, the DoT is believed to be deliberating the matter afresh.

“A final call is expected to be taken soon,” a person privy to the details said.
