Small-town edge: How 5G, OTT is driving demand for data centres beyond big cities

Over-the-top (OTT) video consumption and online gaming are on the rise, as a re AI-based applications, all of which are fueled and maximised by the rollout of 5G across the country. However, all this enhanced internet usage has necessitated data centre players to fast-track their expansion plans. Computing infrastructure in tier2 and tier-3 cities is undergoing a significant upgrade.

Technology giant Microsoft expects the AI revolution to have a significant impact on the architecture underpinning data processing. In an interview with ET last week, CEO Satya Nadella said that the company is focused on leading research work on what the next model architecture will be, so that it can stay ahead of the curve in anticipating the next generation of the data centre system.
