Telecom Diary: Pesky texts, calls refuse to die down!

Spam calls and messages have pervaded the lives of mobile consumers like never before. Despite multiple measures undertaken by telecom regulator Trai, the spam messages and calls menace refuse to die down.

India has moved to next-generation technology 5G and claims to have achieved the fastest 5G rollout ever by a country but the basic issue – of pesky calls/SMS which was prevalent a decade ago still remains and that too, burgeoning. Trai’s Do Not Disturb (DND) registry has not worked well for most consumers. It has been coming out with measures to curb the menace of spam calls and rising cyber frauds but spam callers/cyber frauds have found loopholes and remained a step ahead in all the initiatives brought in by the regulator to improve quality of services.
