Running for Prez, China can’t threaten me: Foxconn founder Terry Gou

Terry Gou, the billionaire founder of major Apple supplier Foxconn, announced on Monday a bid to be Taiwan’s president in January elections, saying he wanted to unite the opposition and ensure the island did not become “the next Ukraine”.

When asked about his reaction on the pressure from Beijing, Gou said that Beijing — which claimed self-ruled Taiwan as its territory — wouldn’t be able to use the businessman’s vast empire to influence him, the Insider reported.

Taiwan-based Foxconn is the largest private employer in China.

He said that he wouldn’t be threatened at a political event on Monday where he announced his campaign, according to Insider’s translation of a recording posted on his Facebook page.
