CCI imposes penalty on Bharti Airtel

New Delhi: Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on Bharti Airtel for failure to comply with the provisions of Section 6(2) of the Competition Act, 2002. The penalty is with respect to acquisition of stake by the company in Bharti Telemedia from Warbug Pincus affiliate entity Lion Meadow Investment Limited.

“We submit that the Competition Commission of India, vide its order dated August 23, 2023, has imposed a penalty amounting to Rs 1 crore under Section 43A of the Competition Act, 2002,” Bharti Airtel said in a regulatory filing.
