Only 23% of 50,000 cybercrimes reported in 6 years cracked
BENGALURU: Over 50,000 cybercrime cases were registered in the city between 2017 and May 31 this year, but only 23% of them have been solved and 29 persons convicted, according to home minister G Parameshwara’s reply to a question in the legislative assembly recently.
Of the 50,027 cybercrime cases registered in nearly six and a half years, 11,895 were solved, the minister’s reply said. The highest number was reported in 2019 (10,553) and the lowest in 2017 (2,742). While 2022 saw 9,940 cases, the first five months of 2023 witnessed 6,226, indicating that there could be a spike this year.
