Average cost of data breach in India rises 28% since 2020 at Rs 18 crore: IBM

CHENNAI: The average cost of a data breach in India stands at Rs 18 crore in 2023 — an all-time high recording a 28% increase since 2020, IBM Security’s global study has found.

The global average cost of a data breach touched $4.45 million in 2023 — a 15% increase over the last three years.

In India, breach detection and escalation costs jumped 45% over this period, representing the highest portion of breach cost, and indicating a shift towards increase in complexity of data breaches.
