Government initiates probe against Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Lenovo

New Delhi: India has asked top Chinese smartphone brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and PC maker Lenovo to pay unpaid tax dues and is pursuing recoveries with owners of the brands concerned, having initiated probes into alleged instances of GST and import levy evasion over multiple years.

In response to an unstarred question in the Rajya Sabha, minister of state for electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, outlined the amount of GST and customs allegedly evaded by the top Chinese smartphone brands from 2017 to July 2023. The response detailed the amounts recovered and the action taken.
