ZTE receives government security clearance to supply gear to Vodafone Idea

The government has allowed Chinese gearmaker ZTE to provide optical transmission equipment worth over Rs 200 crore to Vodafone Idea (Vi) for a network upgradation project. ZTE as well as Chinese peer Huawei have also submitted additional documents to the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) for getting approval as a ‘trusted source’, a pre-condition for being eligible to supply telecom network gear under fresh contracts.
